Final day in Canada
Dual DA40-180 XLS training
With all the baggage and clobber removed the day before, it was time for Johnny
to get some landing practice
But it was not to be... The Lower Mainland is full of students from India and
China, and other Asian countries all doing thei commercial pilot training. I
wrote "Madness" on my notepad.
Mr Trump has not made it easy for foreigners, and nor has the American TSA, and
so Canada has become a major country for training pilots.
Waste not, refused circuits everywhere, we climbed to do my favourite local
tour: fly between the Golden Ears, and then over Widgeon Lake.
With such height gained above the training aeroplanes below we could do some
turns, and stalls, and regain a feel for the aeroplane.
Johnny had an appointment in North Vancouver and so we could not be long.
We were able to do a touch and go at Pitt Meadows followed by a satisfactory
landing back at Boundary Bay.
Lunch with Warwick at Victoria Flying Club
I still had many things to do, and I had a flight to catch, so what could I do
in the time?
I had told Warwick that I would make every effort to see him, and so I decided
to fly the Tomahawk to Victoria on Vancouver Island and have lunch with him.
It's an easy short flight from Boundary Bay to Victoria, it took 26 minutes in the air.
Victoria has a nice Asian cafe/restaurant so for a quick lunch we ate there.
Warwick wrote training books and exam preparation books for Transport Canada
pilot licences and ratings.
He needs to renew his own licence, and I can do this for him, even in a UK
registered aeroplane.
Since I have sold the Aircoupe I now need to rent an aeroplane somewhere.
It was good to renew my acquaintance with flying in
BC.
Flying back to Heathrow.
Air Canada AC860 was more like the airline I had experienced before.
The windows were terribly scratched which means their maintenance is probably
not to a very high standard.
Service on board was functional and impersonal... I did observe one minor
discussion (argument?) between a Flight Attendant and a passenger. She
apparently had not heard something the passenger had said, and she blamed it on
the noise from the airvents.
The point was to get back to Heathrow, and the flight was a few minutes early
arriving in spite of having to fly a few holds.
